Steve Blackburn grew up with machinery and tools, so became a mechanic. He developed an interest in spiritual gifts and ministries. He discovered that the two are related - God has a toolbox, known as his church, or body of believers, and their gifts - special abilities - are God’s tools. He developed this into “In My Father’s Workshop”, an account of how God’s people are used in his work to establish his kingdom.
The title stems from Jesus’ description of Heaven as “My father’s house” and looks at the work Christian people are called to do on their way there, while still on Earth in their present life. God gifts each one a special ability to serve Him in a unique way, and this relates to the common tools a tradesman uses in his day-to-day work. In this case, as a mechanic, I found that any tool I use has an equivalent in a spiritual gift. There are not just a few gifts, as many Christians appear to think, but many, like a a tradesman’s collection of tools.
